This was actually one of, if not the first cut I created (my memory gets a bit hazy with cuts from that time). Back in mid-2015, I'd been doing cardistry for about 6 months and I had this cut minus the closer. Luckily, I happened to see a cut by Hisnent (one of my all-time biggest inspirations) where he closed packets at the end like a book. I simply took his closer and made a slightly "flow-ier" version for my own cut. -- Backett Behel
The creator wanted to playfully poke fun at a rival cardistry move named "Nimbus." In Harry Potter, the Firebolt broomstick outclasses the Nimbus, so he chose the name to jokingly suggest his cut was better and faster.
"Now for a bit of history behind the move, I created Alcubierre's predecessor, Colour Drive, as a fiddle move back in June of 2016. For several months, I kept Colour Drive the way it was until I realized I could make it a five-packet cut. At this point, I decided I wanted the new cut's name to reference Colour Drive. The name Colour Drive had no meaning (someone suggested it to me and I happened to like it), but the name reminded of the Sci-Fi concept of a warp drive. After bit of Googling, I settled on the name Alcubierre, because an idea/concept for a real-life warp drive called the Alcubierre Drive was proposed back in 1994." -Beckett Behel
